There are a variety of personal items that the BEST Program does not provide. The list below gives you a sense of what you may want to bring with you. When going through the list, please keep in mind that space is limited in the residence halls.
Valid driver’s license, state-issued ID card or current passport (You must have this in order to pick up your Student ID Card)
Laptop computer (if you can)
Alarm clock
Backpack or book bag
Bedding—sheets (twin size, extra-long) pillows, pillow cases, blankets, comforter (California King size for extra-long beds if requested)
U-shaped bike lock if you are bringing a bicycle
Calendar/day planner
Clothes hangers
Ethernet cord if you have a laptop (This is needed to connect to internet in your room)
Flash drive (aka USB drive, jump drive)
“Fun Tack” (For hanging items on the wall)
Laundry bag and supplies (Detergent, softeners, iron)
Mini fridge (Optional – must be 2.5 cubic ft. or smaller and cannot draw more than 1.5 amps)
Oscillating/electric fan (Recommended as residence hall rooms are not air conditioned)
Rain coat and umbrella
School materials (Paper, writing utensils, notebooks, etc.)
Shower shoes and hygiene essentials (shampoo, soap, etc.)
Shower tote
Storage crates and stackable containers
Telephone (Optional – local service provided)
Television (Optional – cable provided)
Towels
Washcloths
Water shoes-any old shoes or sandals you can wear in the water for rafting (We have “booties” available in some sizes)
There are several ways in which your accompanying family members can help you settle in to your residence hall and life in Corvallis. These include:
helping you move into the residence hall
shopping with you in Corvallis for basic household goods or school supplies
opening a bank account, if necessary
ordering a parking permit, if you are keeping a car
checking out OSU facilities
registering your bike with Public Safety
